earth's heartbeat

earth's hidden heart
the so-deep drum
a hard bass center
an always thrum

walk on gravel
mind filled with chatter
hear a crow's beak
its tiny clatter

climb the ladder
go down, deep
stomp now, hard

slide your feet

snap your crack-sharp
bony fingers
sparks shoot out
like fire-bee stingers

whack a washtub

with a mallet
take up wailing

sound like hellcats

smash a window

with a rock
break a timepiece

stop the tock

slam a pole

against the axe
ask sweet grannie

to play her sax

call in lightening
long jag cracks
knocks us flat
onto our backs

a dark note hums
down in the earth
our spines call out
to rich fiery dirt
