What to do When You Don't Know What to do

When your world shatters into tiny pieces - and everybody's does, usually more than once - the best first step is to get back into your usual routine. It forces you out of bed or off the couch, and creates a tiny island of normalcy in the chaos all around you. It's a mini-comfort zone. You can live on this little island for as long as you want.

A daily routine may be all you can handle for weeks or even months. Allow yourself all the time you need. It's okay. You're not alone. We've all been in a similar situation in one way or another.

Treat yourself like you're your own best friend. Ask yourself what you'd like to do. Don't ask yourself what you should do. Do not be hard on yourself no matter what.

If someone gives you a hard time, be polite but ignore what that person is saying. When advice feels like "a hard time" it means the other person's ideas aren't helpful.

There are some things we never completely get over and that's okay too.
